ASTIR Project Meeting in Barcelona – From Technology Development to Integration and Evaluation

  • 8. September 2026

The ASTIR consortium met in Barcelona on 2–3 September 2026 for its latest plenary project meeting, hosted by PAL Robotics. The two-day meeting brought the partners together to review progress across the project and coordinate the next phase of technical work.

With ASTIR now well into its second year, an important focus of the meeting was the transition from the development of individual technologies towards their integration and evaluation in the project’s industrial use cases. The consortium reviewed the current status of the ASTIR tools, discussed dependencies between technical components and use cases, and agreed on the activities required over the coming months.

A central part of the discussions concerned the three ASTIR application domains: manufacturing robotics, mobile service robotics and UAVs for agriculture. The partners examined which ASTIR technologies will be integrated into each use case and how the resulting solutions will be evaluated against the project requirements and evaluation framework. This reflects ASTIR’s overall approach of validating its AI-augmented software engineering technologies in different robotics domains.

As host of the meeting, PAL Robotics also provided a closer look at the mobile robotics use case based on TIAGo PRO. This use case will provide a practical environment for evaluating selected ASTIR technologies and their contribution to the engineering of intelligent robotic systems. PAL Robotics reports that the relevant tools for integration into its use case have now been identified, with evaluation activities planned for the coming months. LinkedIn

The Barcelona meeting therefore marked an important point in ASTIR’s development: individual research and technology results are increasingly being brought together into an integrated engineering environment and connected with the industrial use cases where their practical value can be assessed.

ASTIR is developing an AI-augmented engineering workbench for intelligent robotics software, using trustworthy generative AI to support engineering activities across the software lifecycle. The project will validate this approach in manufacturing, service robotics and drone applications.
