ASTIR Joins European Projects to Discuss the Open-Source Path for Collaborative AI

  • 23. April 2026

ASTIR joined the MOSAICO and HIVEMIND projects for the workshop “Collaborative AI: The Open Source Path”, held as part of the Open Community Experience.

The three Horizon Europe projects are investigating complementary aspects of AI-supported software engineering. Their work addresses how specialised AI agents can collaborate with developers and with one another, how these interactions can be orchestrated, and how the quality and trustworthiness of their outputs can be assessed.

ASTIR contributed the perspective of intelligent robotics, where generated software and engineering decisions can affect physical system behaviour. In this context, open-source development can support transparency, independent evaluation, interoperability and reuse. It must nevertheless be combined with clear quality controls, security practices, data governance and appropriate human oversight.

The workshop created an opportunity to compare technical approaches and discuss potential collaboration on open architectures, agent communication, shared evaluation practices and sustainable research communities.

Collaboration with related European projects will help reduce duplication and support a more coherent ecosystem for trustworthy, AI-augmented software engineering.
